The only difference is that https://jdocmanual.org/jdocmanual?artic ... s/favicons shows the code of 'The Link Block' which isn't needed

It was supposed to be there! The code used to extract data from docs.joomla.org was not so good. But we digress. I hope the OP now knows where to place his icons.
